The Baseball Porject

It's not often two of my favourite things get combined. But with the release of The Baseball Project, indie music and baseball have at long last crossed paths. Anchored by Pete Buck from R.E.M, Scott McCaughey of The Minus 5, Linda Pitmon, and Steve Wynn from Dream Syndicate, this indie super group combines music and America's pastime to make one kick ass album. Below are some tracks I personally enjoyed, but the whole CD is pretty good.

Don't call the Twinkies- Song done by Craig Finn of The Hold Steady (pretty stellar indie group) that chronicles the Minnesota Twins from Finn's birth onward. I'm not even a Twins fan but this song is a toe tapper for sure

Chin Music- A humorous take on pitching "high and inside"

Ichiro Goes to the Moon- Honestly I thought the Japanese government sent him on a mission to the moon years ago. A tongue in cheek song about how damn good Ichiro was during the last decade.

Lookout Mom- another upbeat, funny song about Denard Span (what's with all these Twins references?) and him accidentally nailing his mother with a foul ball. Ironically it happened on Mother's Day.

Twilight of My Career- A sobering, kind of gloomy song about Roger Clemens and his fall from glory as he succumbed to steroid use.

So get your hands on this CD cause it rocks! Also, the Women's basketball team at UNCG is heading down to Boone to take on the top seeded Mountaineers in their final regular season game. Then its off to Chattanooga for the Southern Conference Championships!
