Trade deadline aftermath

Well, I was wrong about Prince Fielder. But, The Yankees did manage to nab a talented first baseman before Saturday's deadline. Berkman waived his no trade clause and headed for New York, while The Astros got minor leaguers Jimmy Paredes and Mike Melancon. Don't tell me you haven't heard of those guys (sarcasm implied.)This should really beef up an already beastly offense and really solidify someone in the DH slot for The Bronx Bombers. New york will also welcome relief pitcher Kerry Wood to their bullpen, another great pick up for they boys in pinstripes. While they have probably the most complete team in baseball, one should never overlook the fact that The Yankees hold only a one game lead on the Tampa Bay Rays for first in the AL East. This should make for some late season drama.
In other trade news, The Dodgers acquired pitcher Ted Lilly and outfielder Scott Poesednick. Lilly should help round out their talented rotation, and Poesedenick should be a good addition to their outfield, since Manny Ramirez has been about as reliable as Internet dating services. L.A. will need any edge they can as they are making a playoff push of their own.
The Padres got Ryan Ludwick, which will really help them in the last part of the season here. I am really surprised that The Cardinals did not ask for more players in return, since there is a likely chance that theses two teams could face off in the playoffs in October.
And finally there are those fightin Phils. Obatining Roy oswalt is certainly great for them, but they still need to strengthen their bullpen and extradite themselves from the injury plague they seem to have been struck with. They currently sit two and a half games back from the Braves in the NL East.
There were plenty of other trades that happened, but quit being lazy and go find them out for yourself. I will say I am very surprised that The Mets did nothing, especially after Jason Bay went down and will be out for the next two weeks. Well, it should be an eventful final two months of an already unforgettable season. The Sports Cycle will be on air tonight at 6pm. Listen on wuag.net or turn your dial to 103.1fm.
