If you think UNCG sports are boring, then you haven't watched the ladies soccer team.Currently, they boast a record of 3-0 and own the 18th best ranking in the nation. The season got off to the right start when the Spartans pummeled ECU 2-0, and then proceeded to shock the 11th ranked Wake Forest, on their home field while winning 2-1. At the Georgia Nike invitational, they shutout Utah 1-0. Overall, the defense has allowed just one goal, while the offense has provided them with more than enough points to win. Of course the team comes first, but some of the ladies on the team have already earned some personal accolades. Goalkeeper Kelsey Kearny earned SoCon player of the week during the first week of action. Kerney lead the defense with 2 shutouts during the Spartans first three games. This is the third time she has earned SoCon player of the week in her time at UNCG.
On a more national level, Lauren Hein, a sophomore forward for UNCG was named college soccer 360 prime time performer of the week. Hein was directly involved with both goals that took down Wake Forest, scoring the first, and providing the assist on the game winner, which by all accounts was an amazing play.
Let's hope they can keep this hot streak up. Also, they will be joining us on The Sports Cycle, on September 13th, so tune in to hear perhaps some of the most talented athletes UNCG has to offer.
