It's all over: Spain's new claim to fame
For what most considered to be the biggest sporting event of the 2010 calender year, today's Spain-Netherlands match up was rather mundane. That's not to say that it wasn't historic or important, because it was. The game was sloppy from the get go. 14 yellow cards were issued, which is a finals record. Neither team was able to capitalize on opportunities presented to them, and after 90 minutes, the two nations found themselves gridlocked at 0-0. With less than 8 minutes to go in extra time, all indications were that this thing would be decided in penalty kicks. That was until Andres Iniesta put the ball in the back of the Dutch goal, and forever cemented himself and his Spanish teammates as immortals. The Dutch, who turned the ball over in the 116th minute, are yet again experiencing a world of hurt. What makes this latest loss even more bitter, is that the Dutch have the most World Cup victories (19) without winning a title.Their European friends however have yet to come back down to earth, and why should they? At least until 2014, Spain rules the Soccer world. Lsten to The Sports Cycle tomorrow at 6pm.
